So I finally did it

I joined a health club.  Finally.

After having to reschedule my appt. at Lifetime the other weekend, I was able to stop in there during the week and signed up.  There's no commitment (i.e. initiation fees) and I can cancel at any time with a month's notice, so I went for it.

And so far I've been there 3 times since last Wednesday evening when I joined.  Not so bad, methinks.  However, I'm HELLA sore right now.  I've done 3 yoga classes...that's it....and I swear I won't be able to get out of bed tomorrow.  Joacim's going to have to roll me out :)  A good old soak in the tub will have to wait for tomorrow as Izzy has swimming lessons tonight.  All in all, I'm very happy so far....I took Izzy on Sunday and she hung out in the day care area while I went to a class, and it all worked out.  Now that she's seen the pool, however, I'll be expected to bring her swimming suit with us :)

I'm glad I start this whole thing because my right hip flexor is in some serious need of help.  It's so very very sore most of the time....ironic since it was hip tendonitis in said hip that most likely started this whole damn thing.  I'm focusing very hard on continuously stretching it, but that's about all I can do.  Ice or heat won't really reach the right area, and I'm leery about taking tylenol at this point due to the blood thinners, so I'll stick with stretching for now.

I have an appointment at Mayo this Friday, which means Thursday I'll be staying home, peeing in my jug.  Fingers crossed/prayers/good karma that the results are at least stable.  I'll also be having a follow-up for the FONT study, as well as some prep-work for the upcoming clinical trial, so it'll be a busy day.  I think the family's coming with this time, which will make the time pass faster.

That's about it for now.  Just want to give a shout out to the ladies on the FSGS and Pregnancy Facebook group...you guys are great!  Congrats to all of the new mommies :)

  1. Hey just found your blog and I think its pretty cool. Im 26 and have known about my FSGS since 2007. I too was Prednisone, Cyclosporin. Now I only take BP meds im constantly in the 140s/100s smh. I'm 10wks preggers and excited and scared to death. If you dont mind I'll friend you on FB and maybe help to calm my nerves. This is baby #1 and probably only depending on how this goes. I see like 4 docs OB, high risk,Primary, and Nephrologist. I'm terrified one of them will tell me my poor kidneys are going to fail and i wont be here to watch my lil magic bean grow. Or wont make it through in the first place. thanks for having this place to know Im not alone.

  2. I am so glad I found your blog! I am 31 and was diagnosed with FSGS last summer. I got married last April, as we were planning to start trying for a baby in August, but I got sick right before! I am now on prednisone (very low dose), and Cyclosporine and am just waiting for a few months of remission before my nephrologist will let us start trying. I am excited but also very nervous! It is nice to have someone who has gone through all of this! Thank you, and I hope all goes well at your Mayo appointment!

  3. Hey you two! Yay....new people to get to know! BTW...there's a group I have on facebook called "FSGS and Pregnancy"....there's LOTS of ladies just like us on there (over 80 now) several who are pregnant right now or have recently become moms. It's a private group, but if you request access, I'll grant it. Hope to see you over there where there's TONS of discussion :)

  4. Hi Jenn, Have been reading your blog for the last 12 months and look forward to your posts. It help heaps! Just wanted to ask.... you said in this post - "ironic since it was hip tendonitis in said hip that most likely started this whole damn thing" What did you mean by this. Do you mean that the FSGS was caused by the hip problem?

  5. Hi KM,

Thanks for posting a comment! My FSGS is technically idiopathic, meaning they have no idea why. However, there are really only 2 things that occurred during the year I was diagnosed and the prior year when I had a clean bill of health: the flu and hip tendonitis. I had the flu terribly bad, so it might've cause my immune system to go into hyperdrive. In regards to the hip tendonitis....a doctor had prescribed an NSAID for me to help alleviate the pain, and that might have cause it. So that's what I meant about the ironic part ;) Make sense?

  6. Hi Jenn. Thanks for replying! This does make sense actually and that is why I asked the question.
I have had what they think is Membranous Nephropathy. A Kidney Biopsy did not give a definitive diagnosis or cause but I have been treated quite successfully for MN. In the 6 months prior to the kidney problem I had been hospitalised with chronic sinusitis, chest problems and inflamed nerves in my back. They thought it was an auto immune disease. The back issue was extremely hard for them to diagnose and I took pain killers of various strengths from Nurofen to Morphine on and off for around 3 months. There is some discussion over whether the kidney problem was caused by the NSAIDs that I had taken. I suspect this is the case as I am responding to the treatment and have had no relapses (so far, fingers crossed, probably shouldnt have said that out loud).

Anyway, thanks heaps for all the information you share. It means a lot and as I said, I was really interested to hear your point of view on the NSAIDs. Kath
